Drilling is the process of making a hole into a hard surface where normally the length of the hole is very large compared to the diameter. In the context of mining engineering drilling refers to making holes into a rock mass. Different branches of engineering need drilling for different purposes. In civil engineering, drilling is required for soil sampling, foundation testing, and construction purposes. In Mechanical engineering, drilling is used for making holes in metal and alloys for various manufacturing work. In mining, oil, and gas industries drilling is one of the indispensable functions for exploration, production, and a number of technical purposes for industrial success.

This course is designed to provide you with the necessary concepts, principles, and technology appraisal for enabling you to take up drilling operations in the industry engaged in provisioning of water, oil, gas and minerals to the world  and also to undertake necessary research and development work for understanding and enhancing contemporary knowledge and capabilities of drilling technology
